Cat and Mouse is hosting Talk Like a Pirate Weekend June 27th-29th. It’s simple: Come to Cat & Mouse Plants for 10% off all plants and vintage. Want a bigger discount? Earn another 5% off when you dress in one of our store provided costume pieces. Not enough for you? You can earn another 5% off when you talk like a pirate. But... you’ve got to be convincing! We will even offer free coaching lessons to help you talk like a real pirate.

One day in class, she told him, “If we ever have a daughter, I want to name her Jolie,” which means “pretty” in French.

Fast forward through life, love, and three beautiful daughters… and guess what? No one was named Jolie. So Virginia gave the name to something else she loved deeply—her art.

1. Begin with the greens. They create the shape and give the arrangement a grounded, organic feel—like setting the stage for the story to come.

2. Choose your statement blooms. These are your showstoppers. The ones that catch your eye and steal your heart. I usually work in odd numbers and let them shine in the center.

3. Fill in the spaces with texture. Soft fillers, wild sprigs, something unexpected—this is where the personality really blooms.

4. Keep the movement. Let the flowers breathe. Vary the height, tilt a stem just so, and don’t be afraid of asymmetry. That’s where the beauty often lives.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about taking a piece of furniture that’s been overlooked and giving it a second chance.

The process isn’t always quick or easy—sometimes it’s messy, experimental, and full of “what ifs.” But that’s what makes it beautiful.

Here’s how I usually approach a furniture flip:
1. Start with a solid base – Check for wobbles, deep scratches, or any repairs it might need. The prettier part comes later!
2. Clean it well – Dust, dirt, and grime can hide in all the little corners. A good scrub makes a big difference.
3. Sand – This gives you a smooth surface and helps paint or stain stick properly.
4. Prime (if painting) – Especially if it’s a dark or glossy piece. It’ll help your finish look clean and last longer.
5. Paint or stain – Here’s where your style shines! Go bold, stay classic, or mix textures—whatever fits your vision. Then if painting, paint again until it’s how you like it.
6. Seal it – A clear coat or wax protects your work and gives it that finished feel.
7. Style it + enjoy – Whether you’re keeping it or selling it, this is the moment where it all comes together.

The best part? No two flips are ever the same. And that’s what keeps it fun.
